Keep in mind that joy isn’t experienced by what happens around us but what happens in us. Joy is a work of the Spirit of God in our lives. We talked about the three aspects of joy:
1. Joy and Pain. If we wait until everything is perfect in our life to have joy, we never will. Joy isn’t when all our pain and troubles are gone, real joy enables us to smile through our pain. We don’t fake our smile, acting as if everything is great when we know it’s not. We smile by faith knowing that whatever is happening to us we know that God’s already got it covered.
2. Joy and Connection. Joy is best expressed and experienced in the context of community. In other words, we smile better together. We can get joy from others and we can give joy to others. So get fired up and add a little joy to someone’s Christmas this year. Don’t let your pain and fear keep you away, connect with others this Christmas.
3. Joy and Worship. This is worshipping God for who He is, not for what He does. This kind of worship causes us to look beyond our problems and see the greatness and power of our God! This act of worship renews our joy and restores our smile. Make that Joy Journal and be thankful for how good God is to you everyday!
Ephesians 1:4-6 (NLT)
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.
